Traditional Crafts form Rari

Rari is a small, pre-mountainous town 305 Km. South of Santiago in Chile. Here was born, 200 years ago, a specific form of horsehair weaving. This technique has passed from generation after generation and remains unchanged until today: the horsehair is washed, dyed, and woven by hand into small figures. Their typical motifs reflect elements of the rural world, "flowers, butterflies, and others, the religious and country imagery. These objects have kept through the years, their expressive and ornamental purposes: objects for the body: earrings, necklaces; for their homes: cup holders, bookmarkers, and finally, objects related to religious rituals, scenes from the Bible and rosaries.
